Kajabi vs Teachable: pricing, fees and what you keep, plan by plan

How well we know this tool: Not hands-on — published pricing only — every figure here is computed from Kajabi's and Teachable's published pricing pages, and the payments, tax, trial and refund sections quote both vendors' help pages. We opened a Kajabi trial account in August 2026 and cancelled it in September, but no product testing went into this page, and we have never held a Teachable account. What this means.
Both pricing pages list plans in their own steps, and neither tells you which of its plans to set against which of the other's, or whether the fees ever decide it. This page does that, plan by plan. It is a focused cut of our Kajabi vs Teachable vs Thinkific comparison, on the same assumptions and from the same calculations, so the two pages give the same figures.
The short answer
Teachable Builder against Kajabi Basic. In our tables the two take the same platform cut and U.S. card rate, so on the fees we can price only the plan price differs, at every revenue level: Teachable Builder is $74 a month cheaper on annual billing ($888 a year) and $90 a month cheaper on monthly billing ($1,080 a year). Not in those figures: Teachable's fees for tax handling and recurring payments on its default bundle, whose amounts we have not read, and Kajabi's per-transaction fee for its sales tax feature if you turn it on. Both are in payments and tax.
Teachable Growth against Kajabi Basic. The same platform cut and card rate again. Teachable Growth is $4 a month cheaper on annual billing ($48 a year); Kajabi Basic is $10 a month cheaper on monthly billing ($120 a year). Which one is cheaper depends on how you pay. A gap that size will not decide it. What each plan includes, and how each handles payments and tax, will.
Teachable Starter is $114 a month cheaper than Kajabi Basic on annual billing but takes 7.5% of each sale. Kajabi Basic leaves you more above $1,520 a month in revenue on annual billing, or $1,867 on monthly billing, and Teachable's own Builder overtakes Starter far sooner, above $533 a month on annual billing.
On fees alone, Teachable Builder leaves you the most of the 6 plans at all 3 revenue levels below, on both kinds of billing. That is arithmetic about fees, not a verdict on the product.
The plans side by side: price before any sales
| Plan | Billed monthly | Billed annually | Cut of each sale |
|---|---|---|---|
| Teachable Starter | $39 /mo | $29 /mo | 7.5% |
| Teachable Builder | $89 /mo | $69 /mo | 0% |
| Teachable Growth | $189 /mo | $139 /mo | 0% |
| Kajabi Basic | $179 /mo | $143 /mo | 0% |
| Kajabi Growth | $249 /mo | $199 /mo | 0% |
| Kajabi Pro | $499 /mo | $399 /mo | 0% |
Sorted by the annual price, so plans at similar prices sit next to each other. "Billed annually" is the price per month when you pay for a year up front. "Cut of each sale" is the platform's own share on its own payments; card processing comes on top and is in the next section. Sources: Kajabi, Teachable.
Teachable's plan cards show both prices at once. The Builder card reads “$89 /mo Billed monthly”, “$89 $69 /mo Billed annually Save $240” and “0% transaction fee”. The “Sales transaction fees” row of its feature table carries this note: “Teachable takes no cut of your earnings on Builder and above. Payment processing and commerce service fees (e.g. credit card fees or PayPal changes) may still apply” Teachable's prices were matched by machine against its pricing page on October 1, 2026 and have not yet been checked by a person. Kajabi's were checked by a person on September 9, 2026 and matched by machine on September 27, 2026.
What you keep at $2,000, $5,000 and $10,000 a month
Both tables below rest on the same assumptions as the three-platform comparison:
- Each platform's own payments, not your own Stripe account. What changes on your own Stripe is further down.
- An average sale of $200, so $2,000 a month is 10 sales and $10,000 is 50. Card processing carries a flat $0.30 per sale on top of the percentage.
- U.S. card rates, the ones on each pricing page. Kajabi says of its own: “The rates shown on our pricing page are for U.S. based Heroes only. Kajabi Payments fees vary by country.” Rates elsewhere are in the payments section.
- Annual billing in the first table, monthly billing in the second.
Billed annually
| Plan | Keep at $2,000 | Keep at $5,000 | Keep at $10,000 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Teachable Starter $29/mo, annual 7.5% cut | $1,760 88.0% | $4,444 88.9% | $8,916 89.2% |
| Teachable Builder $69/mo, annual 0% cut | $1,870 93.5% | $4,779 95.6% | $9,626 96.3% |
| Teachable Growth $139/mo, annual 0% cut | $1,800 90.0% | $4,709 94.2% | $9,556 95.6% |
| Kajabi Basic $143/mo, annual 0% cut | $1,796 89.8% | $4,705 94.1% | $9,552 95.5% |
| Kajabi Growth $199/mo, annual 0% cut | $1,742 87.1% | $4,654 93.1% | $9,506 95.1% |
| Kajabi Pro $399/mo, annual 0% cut | $1,544 77.2% | $4,459 89.2% | $9,316 93.2% |
Billed monthly
| Plan | Keep at $2,000 | Keep at $5,000 | Keep at $10,000 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Teachable Starter $39/mo, monthly 7.5% cut | $1,750 87.5% | $4,434 88.7% | $8,906 89.1% |
| Teachable Builder $89/mo, monthly 0% cut | $1,850 92.5% | $4,759 95.2% | $9,606 96.1% |
| Kajabi Basic $179/mo, monthly 0% cut | $1,760 88.0% | $4,669 93.4% | $9,516 95.2% |
| Teachable Growth $189/mo, monthly 0% cut | $1,750 87.5% | $4,659 93.2% | $9,506 95.1% |
| Kajabi Growth $249/mo, monthly 0% cut | $1,692 84.6% | $4,604 92.1% | $9,456 94.6% |
| Kajabi Pro $499/mo, monthly 0% cut | $1,444 72.2% | $4,359 87.2% | $9,216 92.2% |
Under each plan: its price per month on that billing, and the platform's own cut of each sale on its own payments. Each table is sorted by its own price, so the order can differ between them. The "Keep" figures are revenue minus the plan price, the platform's cut and card processing. Highlighted rows lead at one of the 3 levels among these 6 plans.
Which plans to compare, and where the fees flip
Each plan's monthly cost is a plan price plus a rate times your revenue, so for any pair there is either one revenue level where the lines cross, or none at all. These are the pairs worth setting against each other:
| Pair | Kajabi ahead above | Kajabi ahead, monthly | Price gap |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kajabi Basic vs Teachable Starter | $1,520 | $1,867 | $114 $140 mo. |
| Kajabi Basic vs Teachable Builder | Never same rates | Never same rates | $74 $90 mo. |
| Kajabi Basic vs Teachable Growth | Never same rates | Always any revenue | $4 −$10 mo. |
| Kajabi Growth vs Teachable Builder | $130,000 | $160,000 | $130 $160 mo. |
| Kajabi Growth vs Teachable Growth | $60,000 | $60,000 | $60 $60 mo. |
| Kajabi Pro vs Teachable Builder | $165,000 | $205,000 | $330 $410 mo. |
"Kajabi ahead above" is the monthly revenue above which the Kajabi plan leaves you more on annual billing; "Kajabi ahead, monthly" is the same on monthly billing. "Always" means the Kajabi plan leaves you more at any revenue, because it costs less and takes no more per sale; "Never" means the reverse. "Price gap" is how much more the Kajabi plan costs per month on annual billing and, marked "mo.", on monthly billing; a minus sign means it costs less. The crossover is the price gap divided by the difference in what each plan takes per dollar of sales.
Kajabi Basic and Teachable Builder take the same from each sale in these tables: 0% from the platform, and 2.9% plus $0.30 in card processing. The fees we can price do not close the price gap, because they do not differ; the bundle and sales-tax fees described under payments and tax are not in them. The 0% on Builder carries a condition in Teachable's own words, from its “Teachable Pay” help page, dated June 23, 2026: “Builder, Growth, Advanced, Business plans: 0% transaction fee for Teachable Payments.”
Teachable Starter is the pair where the lines do cross. Starter is $114 a month cheaper than Kajabi Basic on annual billing but takes 7.5% of each sale, so Basic leaves you more above ($143 − $29) ÷ 7.5% = $1,520 a month. Teachable defines what the 7.5% is taken from: “Starter Plan: 7.5% of total transaction value (product price including taxes)” Our tables apply it to the revenue figure at the top of each column.
Growth against Growth. Kajabi Growth is $60 a month more than Teachable Growth on either billing. Its card rate is 0.1% lower, so it leaves you more only above $60,000 a month in sales.
At the top end, on Kajabi Payments, Kajabi's higher plans lower the card rate (2.9% on Basic, 2.8% on Growth and 2.7% on Pro, on Kajabi's U.S. rates) and nothing else about what comes off a sale in our tables. (On your own Stripe, the surcharge also changes by plan; see below.) For Kajabi Pro to overtake Teachable Builder, a 0.2% lower rate has to cover a $330 a month price gap: that takes $165,000 a month in sales, or $1,980,000 a year. For Kajabi Growth it is $130,000 a month. So a move up Kajabi's plans against Teachable is paid for by features, not by fees, at any revenue these tables cover.
What each plan includes
Kajabi Basic against the two Teachable plans nearest its price, from each pricing page's own table. The two tables do not list the same features, so this is the rows that line up, not a full comparison.
| Feature | Kajabi Basic | Teachable Builder | Teachable Growth |
|---|---|---|---|
| Products | 5 | 10 | 50 |
| Admin users | 2 | 1 | 5 |
| Community | 1 | Yes | Yes |
| Email marketing | Unlimited, to 2,500 contacts | Yes | Yes |
| Affiliate program | No | Yes | Yes |
| Custom domain | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Remove branding | No | No | Yes |
| Certificates | No row | No | Yes |
Kajabi's “Marketing Emails” row and Basic's contact limit were checked by a person on September 14, 2026; its products and admin users were read by machine on September 14, 2026 and not checked by a person; its community, affiliate, domain and branding rows were read by machine on September 27, 2026 and not yet checked by a person. “No row” means Kajabi's table has no row for certificates, which is not the same as Kajabi not offering them. Teachable's rows were read by machine on October 1, 2026 and not yet checked by a person.
Teachable's products row carries this note: “1 product = 1 course, coaching offering, or digital download — regardless of how many videos, modules, or lessons it contains.” Kajabi's table gives no definition we hold, so the two product counts may not count the same thing.
Students and contacts are different things. Teachable limits students who join without paying, in a note on its students row: “Unlimited for students who purchase through Teachable checkout. Each plan also includes 100 students who join without a purchase (free products, manual enrollment, imports). Above 100, we charge $0.50/month per student. Schools on legacy usage limits: see Usage Fees.” That is $0.50 a month for each one over the allowance. Kajabi's limit is on contacts, a term its pricing page does not define on the pages we hold; its feature table reads “Contacts 2,500 25,000 100,000” across its three plans, 2,500 on Basic. Teachable's figure counts students who join without paying, so the two are not shown to be on the same scale and we have not converted one into the other.
Kajabi Growth, the next Kajabi plan, lists 25,000 contacts and 50 products, and its table marks these for Growth and not Basic: Cohorts Courses, Affiliate Programs, Advanced Automations, Webhooks, Comment-to-DM and Remove Kajabi Branding. Kajabi's pricing FAQ makes its own case for the price:
Isn't Kajabi expensive for a course platform? If you are just looking at a course delivery platform, yes. But, Kajabi is also the email tool, the website, the community and the checkout, and it takes no cut of your sales. Price the pieces à la carte and Kajabi is the cheaper way to run the whole business from a few thousand contacts up.
Payments and tax
Both platforms tie their tax features to their own payment system, and they do not do the same thing with the tax once it is collected.
Kajabi. Its sales tax feature, Kajabi Sales Tax, needs Kajabi Payments on the offer: “Kajabi Payments must be selected as a payment option in the offer for you to collect sales tax. Sales tax can be enabled for any Offer you choose.” What it does with the tax, from the same help page:
Kajabi Sales Tax also makes it easy for you to file and remit any sales tax you collect with detailed sales tax reporting. It does not file or remit sales taxes on your behalf. You are responsible for filing and remitting any sales tax that you collect.
What it does do: “Kajabi partnered with Quaderno (one of the world’s leading sales tax compliance platforms) to enable at-checkout calculation and collection of sales tax factoring in the tax jurisdictions you set up, the product or service (i.e., offer) being sold, and your customer’s location.” And it is charged for: “With Kajabi Sales Tax, you only pay for what you use. The fee is charged per successful transaction and will only apply to transactions for Offers that have Kajabi Sales Tax enabled.” So on Kajabi Payments, Kajabi can calculate and collect the tax at checkout, and filing and paying it stays with you.
Teachable. Its tax help, for Teachable Payments:
On Teachable Payments, Teachable automatically calculates, collects, and remits tax on product sales in multiple markets — covering US sales tax, EU and UK VAT, and digital content taxes across 20+ additional markets worldwide. Teachable only collects and remits taxes in jurisdictions where local laws legally require the platform to do so.
And: “You never need to remit collected tax yourself — Teachable handles this entirely on your behalf when taxes are collected from the buyer.” That is for Teachable Payments only. For the other route, Custom Payment Gateway (CPG), where you connect your own Stripe account: “For Custom Payment Gateway schools, creators are solely responsible for collecting and remitting tax to the relevant authorities.” On Teachable Payments the tax handling is not free either. Teachable's setup help describes the default bundle, Standard, as: “Default for all Teachable Payments schools. Includes core payment processing with additional fees for tax handling and recurring transactions.” and the other, Go Global (+2.8%), as: “Everything in Standard, plus automated author/affiliate payouts, 35+ local payment methods, and Adaptive Pricing. Tax handling and recurring transaction fees waived.” The amounts are on a page titled “Understand your transaction fees and bundles”, which we have not read, so they are not in any table here.
Kajabi's page was read by machine on September 27, 2026 and not yet checked by a person; Teachable's was read by machine on October 1, 2026 and not yet checked by a person.
Where each payment system is available
Kajabi's two help pages on where Kajabi Payments is available, the overview and the page for Europe, list 25 countries between them. Teachable: “Teachable Payments is currently available to creators based in the following 41 countries. If your country is not listed, you'll be routed to CPG onboarding automatically.” All 25 countries on Kajabi's list, including the UK and Australia, are on Teachable's too. Teachable's list also has Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Gibraltar, Hong Kong, Hungary, Japan, Liechtenstein, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Romania, Singapore, Sweden and Switzerland. Teachable's list is from its help page on setting up Teachable Payments, marked “Updated over 3 weeks ago” when we read it on October 1, 2026. A differently named help page, “Teachable Pay”, dated June 23, 2026, gives a different list, and we cannot tell you which one describes today. Kajabi's full list is on which countries can use Kajabi Payments.
Card rates outside the U.S.
Every figure in the tables above uses U.S. rates. Kajabi's UK page gives 1.5% + £0.20 GBP for standard cards, 1.9% + £0.20 GBP for premium, 2.5% + £0.20 GBP for EEA cards and 3.25% + £0.20 GBP for international ones. Its Australia page gives 1.70% + $0.30 AUD domestic and 3.5% + $0.30 AUD international, marks the domestic rate “Lower pricing from 1 Oct 2026” and the international one “Lower pricing from 1 Apr 2027”, and does not say on that page whether the figures are before or after those changes. On plans, the UK, Europe and Australia pages say: “You may qualify for discounted card rates based on your plan. To check, go to Account Settings > Billing for details of your current plan.” Teachable's pricing page gives two card rates: U.S credit & debit card sales, 2.9% + 30¢, and International credit & debit card sales, 3.9% + 30¢. Its “Teachable Pay” help page says the rates are “Same across all plan levels; varying by payment method and student location”. We have no Teachable rate specific to the UK or Australia. (Kajabi's country pages were read by machine on September 27, 2026 and not yet checked by a person; Teachable's rates were read by machine on October 1, 2026 and not yet checked by a person.)
Tax on the plan price itself
Separate from the tax on your sales, both platforms can add tax to what you pay them. Kajabi: “Kajabi collects tax based on applicable laws. Kajabi calculates the exact tax for each account and includes it in the invoice.” “Tax will be calculated based on the billing address listed on your account. Tax rates vary by location.” Teachable: “Currently, Teachable collects sales tax/VAT/GST on Teachable plan purchases in the following markets:” Australia, Canada, Chile, Iceland, Kenya, Mexico, Moldova, New Zealand, Norway, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Korea, Switzerland, Taiwan, Tanzania, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom and United States. Asked “Does the addition of a tax rate affect the price of my Teachable plan?”, it answers: “Yes, if your billing address is in one of the tax-applicable jurisdictions, the applicable VAT,GST and/or DST will be added to your recurring subscription price.” And: “If your billing address is outside these jurisdictions, no changes will be applicable to your subscription.” The plan prices in this page's tables are before any such tax.
Bringing your own Stripe
Kajabi adds a surcharge for taking payments through your own provider: 2% on Basic, 1% on Growth and 0.5% on Pro, on top of the provider's own fees. On Basic at $5,000 a month that is $100 a month. Where it applies, in Kajabi's words: “the 3rd party payment provider fee applies to all transactions processed through a 3rd party payment provider (like Stripe) in regions where Kajabi Payments is also available. It does not apply to transactions processed with Kajabi Payments or PayPal in any region, or a 3rd party payment provider in regions where Kajabi Payments is not available.” Its pricing page footnote: “*Excludes PayPal & Kajabi Payments. Subject to additional fees from selected payment provider.” The full arithmetic is on Kajabi's fee for connecting your own Stripe.
Teachable offers the same route as CPG: “It’s available to all creators, including those in countries where Teachable Payments is the default gateway.” Whether Teachable adds a surcharge on CPG we have not confirmed. We have not found such a fee, which is not the same as having confirmed there is none. The 0% on Builder and Growth quoted above is stated for Teachable Payments, and on CPG, by the line quoted in the tax section, the tax on your sales is yours.
The free trial and the refund
Kajabi: “Kajabi offers a maximum free trial period of 14 days, and extensions are not available once this period ends.” “When you sign up for a free trial on Kajabi, a $149 authorization hold is placed on your card to validate your payment method. This hold confirms that the card works as expected and helps prevent fraudulent payment methods from being used.” “This is not a charge; the hold will be immediately reversed when the validation on the card succeeds.” “If you cancel your trial before its scheduled end date, you will not be billed, and the authorization hold will not convert into a charge.” Its pricing FAQ adds: “Yes. Upgrade, downgrade or cancel whenever you like, and every plan has a 30-day money-back guarantee.” (Kajabi's trial help was read by machine on September 27, 2026 and not yet checked by a person.)
Teachable: each plan card says “7-day free trial. 30-day guarantee.” The pricing FAQ, asked “Is there a free plan?”, answers: “Teachable is a paid service that includes a 7-day free trial and a 30-day money-back guarantee. That means you can explore Teachable at no cost before committing.” Its refund help: “Refunds are available within 30 days of signing up for a new paid plan or upgrading to a higher-tier plan. This applies to both monthly and annual Teachable subscriptions. Refunds are also available for charges incurred during trial periods if you decide not to continue with Teachable, as well as for unexpected charges during free trials. Additionally, refunds for admin add-ons require the removal of additional admin users from your school before processing.” Whether Teachable asks for a card to start the trial, we did not find on the pages we read on October 1, 2026. Not finding it there is not the same as Teachable not saying it anywhere. (Teachable's lines were read by machine on October 1, 2026 and not yet checked by a person.)
When an annual plan renews. Kajabi's help on managing a subscription: “Annual plan pricing may change at renewal. If your renewal amount is higher than your previous year’s charge, this reflects Kajabi’s current published pricing for your plan. Kajabi does not offer price locks or renewal discounts to offset price increases.” Teachable's pricing page says: “Teachable plans auto‑renew each billing cycle until canceled. You may cancel at any time; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing cycle. Charges are subject to change and additional fees may apply.” We did not find a line from Teachable on the price at renewal specifically.
Who each one is wrong for
- Kajabi Basic, if you only need to deliver courses. It takes the same platform cut and card rate as Teachable Builder in our tables and costs $74 a month more on annual billing. Kajabi's own FAQ, quoted above, concedes the point for that buyer: “If you are just looking at a course delivery platform, yes”. Its case is the bundled email, website and community.
- Kajabi, if you are in a country where Kajabi Payments is available and want to keep your own Stripe. You pay 2% on Basic, 1% on Growth and 0.5% on Pro on every sale for that choice. PayPal, and countries without Kajabi Payments, are exempt, per the quote above.
- Kajabi, if you want the platform to file and pay the tax on your sales. Kajabi's help: “It does not file or remit sales taxes on your behalf.”
- Teachable Starter, once you sell more than about $533 a month on annual billing ($667 monthly). Above that, Teachable's own Builder costs less, and above $1,520 ($1,867 monthly) Kajabi Basic does too. The working is on Teachable pricing and the 7.5% fee.
- Teachable Builder, if you need certificates, removing Teachable branding or more than 1 admin user. Its feature table, in the section above, does not give it those; Growth has them, at $139 a month on annual billing. Teachable's refund help, quoted above, mentions admin add-ons; we have not read what they cost.
- Teachable, if you are outside the countries Teachable Payments covers. You are routed to CPG, where by Teachable's help the tax on your sales is yours to collect and remit, and whether a surcharge applies we have not confirmed.
- This page, if you sell mostly outside the U.S. Every dollar figure uses U.S. card rates; the rates we have for elsewhere are above, not in the tables.
- This page, if you are choosing on the bundled email. Whether a bundle beats a separate email tool depends on your list size; Kajabi's bundled email vs Thinkific + Kit prices that by list size, against Thinkific plus Kit rather than Teachable.
What this does not tell you
- Card rates outside the U.S. in dollar terms. The tables use U.S. rates.
- The amounts of Teachable's tax and recurring-payment bundle fees, which are on a page we have not read.
- Payout reserves on Teachable. Two of its help pages disagree about them, so we leave them out rather than pick one.
- What Teachable charges at the renewal of an annual plan, beyond the line quoted above.
- Whether Teachable adds a surcharge on CPG.
- Either product from the inside. Everything here is from the pricing pages and help pages linked below.
Teachable against Podia, on the same kind of arithmetic, is on Podia vs Teachable.
Who pays us for this pair
Both do, on our records. Kajabi pays us 30%, for as long as that customer keeps paying (a caveat: this comes from their application page and we have not been able to re-check it inside the dashboard). Teachable pays 30%, for up to 12 months, then it stops. What each percentage is a share of, the plan price only or the plan price plus any transaction fee, we have not confirmed. On annual billing, every Kajabi plan in the pairs above has the higher plan price of its pair, so if both are shares of the plan price, a Kajabi signup through our link pays us more. On monthly billing that does not hold for Kajabi Basic against Teachable Growth, where the Kajabi plan is the cheaper one. On the fee arithmetic, Teachable Builder comes out ahead of Kajabi Basic at every revenue level in both tables, and we have left it that way.

Every dollar figure on this page comes from two lines of arithmetic:
monthly cost = plan price + revenue × (platform cut + card rate) + sales × $0.30
crossover revenue = price gap ÷ (rate per dollar of sales on the cheaper plan − rate on the dearer plan)
