Teachable pricing: what Starter, Builder and Growth cost, and when the 7.5% fee makes Builder cheaper

How well we know this tool: Not hands-on — published pricing only — we worked this out from Teachable's published pricing page and help pages, we have not run a Teachable account. What this means.

Update, October 1, 2026. This page now starts with what each Teachable plan costs, what each includes, the trial and the tax, from Teachable's pricing page and help pages. The crossover figures further down did not change. Two things were corrected at the same time. The list of what this page does not tell you said we did not know what the 7.5% is charged on; Teachable's help states it, and it is quoted below. And the note beside our affiliate link said we are paid the same whatever you choose. Our commission is a percentage, so what we are paid can depend on the plan you choose; the note now says so, and what we have not confirmed about it.

Update, October 1, 2026. The section on annual versus monthly billing said annual billing widens the gap between Starter and Builder. It narrows it, which is why the crossover is lower on annual billing. The figures were right; the sentence around them had the direction backwards.

You want to know what Teachable costs, and which of Starter, Builder and Growth to pay for. Teachable lists its entry plan at $29 a month on annual billing. That is not what the plan costs you. Starter also takes 7.5% of every sale — a separate charge, on top of the plan fee and on top of card processing. Builder takes 0% and Growth takes 0%. At $2,000 a month in sales, that one line is $150 a month, which is more than the plan fee it sits next to.

Short answer: above $533 a month in revenue, paying $69 a month for Builder leaves you more money than paying $29 for Starter. Below that, Starter really is cheaper. On monthly billing the crossover moves to $667. At $10,000 a month, staying on Starter costs $710 a month more than Builder — $8,520 a year.

What each Teachable plan costs

How much does Teachable cost? Starter is $39 a month, or $29 a month billed annually ($348 a year). Builder is $89 a month, or $69 a month billed annually ($828 a year). Growth is $189 a month, or $139 a month billed annually ($1,668 a year). Starter also takes 7.5% of every sale; Builder and Growth take 0%, which Teachable's help page “Teachable Pay”, dated June 23, 2026, states as “Builder, Growth, Advanced, Business plans: 0% transaction fee for Teachable Payments.” Card processing comes on top on every plan: 2.9% + 30¢ for U.S credit & debit card sales and 3.9% + 30¢ for international credit & debit card sales, per the pricing page. There is no free plan; Teachable's help says: “Please note that Teachable no longer offers a free plan.” The pricing page's table has a fourth column, Custom, whose limits read “Contact Sales”; we hold no price for it.

Plan Billed monthly Billed annually A year on annual Saved by paying annually Cut of each sale
Teachable Starter $39 /mo $29 /mo $348 $120 Teachable: “Save $120” 7.5%
Teachable Builder $89 /mo $69 /mo $828 $240 Teachable: “Save $240” 0%
Teachable Growth $189 /mo $139 /mo $1,668 $600 Teachable: “Save $600” 0%

The "Billed annually" column is the per-month price the pricing page shows for annual billing, and "A year on annual" is twelve of those. "Saved by paying annually" is twelve months at the monthly price minus that year, and on every plan it matches the pricing page's own “Save” figure. The 0% in "Cut of each sale" is on Teachable Payments. Prices, “Save” figures and fees were read by machine on October 1, 2026 and not yet checked by a person.

The annual toggle on the pricing page reads “22% OFF”. On the table's own numbers the saving is 22.5% to 26.5% of a year on monthly billing, depending on the plan; that percentage is our arithmetic, not a figure Teachable prints. Under the plans, the pricing page adds: “Teachable plans auto‑renew each billing cycle until canceled. You may cancel at any time; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing cycle. Charges are subject to change and additional fees may apply.” Whether a year paid up front is worth it for you depends on how long you stay; that arithmetic is in annual vs monthly pricing.

What each plan includes, the trial, and tax

From the pricing page's feature table. Builder costs $40 a month more than Starter on annual billing, and Growth $70 a month more than Builder.

Where Starter has a No or no row and Builder has a Yes: “Community”, “Built-in email marketing”, “Integrated affiliate program” and “Custom domain”. Where Builder has a No and Growth has a Yes: “Remove Teachable branding” and “Certificates”. Growth also lists 5 admin-level users against 1, and 50 products against 10.

The trial. Each plan card on the pricing page says “7-day free trial. 30-day guarantee.” The FAQ, asked “Is there a free plan?”, answers: “Teachable is a paid service that includes a 7-day free trial and a 30-day money-back guarantee. That means you can explore Teachable at no cost before committing.” On refunds, Teachable's help: “We want every user to be satisfied with their experience using our platform, which is why we offer a 30-day refund policy for school plan purchases.”

Refunds are available within 30 days of signing up for a new paid plan or upgrading to a higher-tier plan. This applies to both monthly and annual Teachable subscriptions. Refunds are also available for charges incurred during trial periods if you decide not to continue with Teachable, as well as for unexpected charges during free trials. Additionally, refunds for admin add-ons require the removal of additional admin users from your school before processing.

Whether a card is needed to start the trial, we did not find on the pages we read on October 1, 2026. Not finding it there is not the same as Teachable not saying it anywhere. (These lines were read by machine on October 1, 2026 and not yet checked by a person.)

Tax on your Teachable plan. “Currently, Teachable collects sales tax/VAT/GST on Teachable plan purchases in the following markets:” Australia, Canada, Chile, Iceland, Kenya, Mexico, Moldova, New Zealand, Norway, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Korea, Switzerland, Taiwan, Tanzania, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom and United States. Asked “Does the addition of a tax rate affect the price of my Teachable plan?”, the help answers: “Yes, if your billing address is in one of the tax-applicable jurisdictions, the applicable VAT,GST and/or DST will be added to your recurring subscription price.” And: “If your billing address is outside these jurisdictions, no changes will be applicable to your subscription.” The United Kingdom and Australia are on that list, so the prices in the table above are before that tax there.

Tax on what you sell. Teachable's tax help, for Teachable Payments:

On Teachable Payments, Teachable automatically calculates, collects, and remits tax on product sales in multiple markets — covering US sales tax, EU and UK VAT, and digital content taxes across 20+ additional markets worldwide. Teachable only collects and remits taxes in jurisdictions where local laws legally require the platform to do so.

“You never need to remit collected tax yourself — Teachable handles this entirely on your behalf when taxes are collected from the buyer.” For the other route, Custom Payment Gateway (CPG), where you connect your own Stripe account: “For Custom Payment Gateway schools, creators are solely responsible for collecting and remitting tax to the relevant authorities.” The tax handling on Teachable Payments is not free on the default bundle; Teachable's setup help describes it as “Default for all Teachable Payments schools. Includes core payment processing with additional fees for tax handling and recurring transactions.” The amounts are on a page titled “Understand your transaction fees and bundles”, which we have not read.

Where Teachable Payments is available. “Teachable Payments is currently available to creators based in the following 41 countries. If your country is not listed, you'll be routed to CPG onboarding automatically.” The United Kingdom and Australia are on it. And CPG: “It’s available to all creators, including those in countries where Teachable Payments is the default gateway.” The processing fees above are “Same across all plan levels; varying by payment method and student location”, in the words of the June 23, 2026 “Teachable Pay” help page; this page's arithmetic uses the U.S credit & debit card rate. (The tax help was read by machine on October 1, 2026 and not yet checked by a person; the payments help was read by machine on October 1, 2026 and not yet checked by a person.)

What the 7.5% is charged on. The June 23, 2026 “Teachable Pay” help page: “Starter Plan: 7.5% of total transaction value (product price including taxes)”. So on a sale where tax is collected, Starter's fee is on the price plus the tax. The tables below apply 7.5% to revenue with no tax in it.

Three fees come out, not one

The pricing page shows you the first of these. The other two decide what lands in your bank account.

Plan fee A flat monthly charge: $29 for Starter, $69 for Builder and $139 for Growth on annual billing ($39 / $89 / $189 if you pay monthly). It does not move when your sales move.
Transaction fee Teachable's own cut of each sale, charged on top of the plan fee and on top of card processing. Starter: 7.5%. Builder: 0%. Growth: 0%. It is a percentage of your sales, not of your profit, so it is charged in full on a month where you made nothing after costs. On the 0% plans it is stated for Teachable Payments.
Card processing 2.9% plus $0.30 a sale for U.S credit & debit card sales on the pricing page, and 3.9% + 30¢ for international ones. The arithmetic on this page uses the U.S. rate. In this pricing it is identical on all 3 Teachable plans, so it changes what you keep but not which plan you should be on.

What 7.5% costs in dollars

Same arithmetic at 5 revenue levels, all on annual billing, all assuming an average sale of $200 so that the flat $0.30 per sale is counted properly. "Total cost" is plan fee plus transaction fee plus card processing.

Monthly revenue Cheaper plan Sales Starter's 7.5% Starter total cost Builder total cost
$400 Starter by $10/mo 2 $30 $360/yr $71 $81
$1,000 Builder by $35/mo 5 $75 $900/yr $135 $100
$2,000 Builder by $110/mo 10 $150 $1,800/yr $240 $130
$5,000 Builder by $335/mo 25 $375 $4,500/yr $557 $222
$10,000 Builder by $710/mo 50 $750 $9,000/yr $1,084 $374

The first row is the honest case for Starter: below the crossover, the cheap plan is the cheap plan. Every row after it is the case against staying.

Where the crossover is, and how it is calculated

A transaction fee is a percentage and a plan upgrade is a flat number, so there is exactly one revenue level where the two lines meet. Setting the two monthly costs equal and solving:

Check it against the full cost model rather than the shortcut: at exactly $533 a month across 2.67 sales, Starter costs $85.27 and Builder costs $85.27. Same number, which is what a crossover means. One more sale and Builder is ahead, and it stays ahead for good.

Note what is not in that formula: your average order value and your number of sales. Card processing is charged at the same 2.9% plus $0.30 on both plans, so it cancels out of the subtraction. Whether your average sale is $2,000 or $50, the crossover sits at the same $533 a month.

A second, blunter way to see the same thing: divide the Starter plan fee by the fee rate. Above $387 a month in revenue ($29 ÷ 7.5%), the transaction fee costs you more than the plan it is attached to. On monthly billing that point is $520.

What each Teachable plan leaves you

The same 5 revenue levels, run through all 3 plans. Percentages are the share of your sales you still have after all three fees.

Plan Sticker Keep at $400Keep at $1,000Keep at $2,000Keep at $5,000Keep at $10,000
Starter · 7.5% fee $29 /mo $329 82.2%$866 86.6%$1,760 88.0%$4,444 88.9%$8,916 89.2%
Builder $69 /mo $319 79.7%$901 90.0%$1,870 93.5%$4,779 95.6%$9,626 96.3%
Growth $139 /mo $249 62.2%$831 83.0%$1,800 90.0%$4,709 94.2%$9,556 95.6%

Starter leads at 1 of the 5 revenue levels in that table ($400 a month) and trails at the rest. That is the whole shape of the decision: it is an entry plan priced for people who are not yet selling much, and it stops being an entry price the moment you are.

Where Growth fits

Growth costs $139 a month against Builder's $69, and takes 0% of your sales against Builder's 0%. Against Starter, Growth pulls ahead above $1,467 a month. Against Builder it never pays for itself on fees, because there are no fee savings left to pay for it — the two plans charge identically here. If you move to Growth, move for what it unlocks, because the arithmetic will not do it for you.

Annual versus monthly billing

Annual billing cuts the plan fee on every Teachable plan here, but it does not touch the transaction fee, so it moves the crossover. Starter drops $10 a month and Builder drops $20, so paying annually narrows the gap between them from $50 a month to $40. A smaller gap takes less revenue to earn back, which is why the annual-billing crossover is $533 rather than $667. If you are close to the line, the billing choice decides which side you are on.

Who this is not for

What this does not tell you

This is a pricing calculation from published prices. The access box at the top of this article says how much of Teachable we have actually touched, which is none of it. Specifically not covered:

Check the numbers yourself

Every dollar figure above is calculated from Teachable's published plan prices, matched by machine against the pricing page on October 1, 2026. The pricing page has a monthly/annual toggle, so check the one that matches how you would pay. The sources:

If your own numbers differ from the assumptions here, our course platform fee calculator takes your revenue and your sales count and runs the same arithmetic.

If you are going to sign up anyway

This is our affiliate link: start a Teachable trial. If you subscribe through it, Teachable pays us a commission of 30%, for up to 12 months, then it stops. It costs you nothing extra and it changes none of the arithmetic above, which came from Teachable's own published prices.

What that 30% is a share of, we have not confirmed. If it is the plan price only, Builder pays us more than Starter, and the advice on this page above $533 a month is also the advice that pays us more. If it also counts Starter's 7.5% transaction fee, the direction can reverse above that same $533, where Starter's plan and fee together come to more than Builder's plan. Either way, the formula and the check are on the page, so you can redo the crossover without trusting us. On some revenue levels a different platform keeps you more; the platform comparison shows which.

Teachable's plan prices matched by machine against its public pricing page on October 1, 2026. If a number here is out of date, tell us at hello@feesandfigures.com and we will fix it and note the change at the top of this article.
